WHO WE ARE
We continue to grow our environmental education centre having relocated down to Foxton Beach, highlighting the immense taoanga at the Papangio Te Wharangi Manawatū Estuary.
We provide a citizen science experience on estuarine health with the Marine Metre Square programme from Otago University Marine Centre, as well as mini Bioblitz data collections on the unique fauna and flora of this area. Our work involves grow dune and estuarine plants offsite from our current centre for community planting days, as well as to support restoration of the Coastal Dune systems here at the Beach.
We do school and activity/seniors group bookings at low cost - needing at least two weeks notice to arrange educators for groups over 8. Sessions last at least 90 minutes.
OUR HISTORY
The Wildlife Foxton Trust was founded in November 2014, with its purpose to establish a centre to highlight the wildlife of New Zealand, focusing on local wildlife as well as the animals that are often forgotten.
Our aims include preserving local wildlife and habitats and providing an educational facility and programmes linked to and enhancing the surrounding environment for the benefit of the community and visitors to the area.
We work closely with government departments, regional and local authorities, other organisations, and groups/individuals to ensure the best outcomes for our local environment.
